Teacher Interview #1

Description of Artifact

The second artifact I chose to demonstrate my understanding of Standard #11 “Technology Standards for Teachers” is the first teacher interview I conducted on the topic of creating powerful learning opportunities in the classroom using technology. This interview is a write up of my conversation with one of my cooperating fieldwork teachers about the different ways she utilizes technology in her own classroom to engage her students as well as enhance and extend their learning. The artifact includes my cooperating teacher’s reply as well as my analyzation and reflection of her response.

Connection to Standard #11

I chose to include my first teacher interview as one of the artifacts that demonstrates my understanding of Standard #11 “Technology Standards for Teachers” because one of the core ideas of Standard 11, highlighted by the key phrase “learning experiences to engage students and improve learning”, directly connects to the topic of my interview which is creating powerful learning opportunities in the classroom using technology. This artifact demonstrates my learning of Standard 11 because in the interview write-up, I analyzed the strategies for technology integration that my cooperating teacher uses in her own classroom and proceeded to connect these strategies to the Triple E Framework for implementing technology in the classroom. The Triple E Framework says that technology tools used in the classroom should engage students as well as enhance and extend their learning. For example, when my cooperating teacher explained that she uses apps like Seesaw to connect students work in school to their home life, I reflected that using this technology tool allows her to build a bridge between real life and school work for the kids which extends their learning.  Through this artifact, I demonstrated my understanding of using technology in the classroom for engagement, enhancement, and extension which are central components of Standard #11 “Technology Standards for Teachers”.
